OpenEar collects as little as possible. This policy covers both this website and the OpenEar Tours app.
The website
If you join the early-access list, we store the email address you give us — nothing else. We don't use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies on this website. Sign-ups are delivered through Web3Forms, which processes the submission and forwards it to our inbox. We use your email for one thing: to tell you when OpenEar launches. We won't sell it or share it. You can ask us to remove you at any time by emailing [email protected].
Your account
To buy a tour and keep access to it across devices, you create an account with an email address and a password. We store your email address and an encrypted password. That is the whole account.
Accounts are handled by Supabase, which stores this data for us in the European Union (Ireland).
Your location
OpenEar plays audio when you reach a place on the tour. To do that, the app reads your location from your phone — including while the screen is off, so you can keep it in your pocket while you walk.
Your location never leaves your phone. We do not collect it, store it, or send it anywhere. The app compares your position to the tour's stops on the device itself, and forgets it. The app contains no analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting software of any kind.
You can turn location off at any time in your phone's settings. The app still works — you simply tap each stop to play it.
Purchases
When you buy a tour, the payment is handled by Apple (in the app) or Paddle (on this website). We never see your card details.
We store a record of the transaction: which tour, when, the amount, and the payment provider's reference number. We use it to give you access to what you bought, to restore your purchases if you change phone, and to meet our accounting and tax obligations.
Downloads
If you download a tour for offline use, the audio is stored on your phone. We do not track what you download or what you listen to. You can delete a download at any time from the tour screen.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time, from Settings → Account → Delete account in the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
What is deleted: your account, your email address, the record of which tours you have access to, and any audio you downloaded to your device.
What is kept: a minimal transaction record (tour, date, amount, payment reference), because accounting and tax law require us to keep proof of sales. This record is stripped of personal data and is no longer linked to any identifiable person. We do not use it for anything else.
Your purchases: deleting your account ends your access to the tours you bought. Purchases made through the App Store stay associated with your Apple ID — if you create a new account and use Restore purchase, you may be able to claim them again. We cannot guarantee this, as it depends on Apple's records.
Refunds: deleting your account does not trigger a refund. App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, not by us.
Your rights
You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — by emailing [email protected], or by using the delete option in the app. We will respond within 30 days.
